"A small town is a place where there's no place to go where you shouldn't."
Burt Bacharach
Yesterday we took in the enormity that is our county fair. And it was all that it could be and more. I passed up the daytime pig catching contest to attend in the evening.
Ominous skies prevailed as night drew upon us and it was quite lovely.
As the night came to a close we rounded up the chiclets and headed back to the farmette.
Another year must pass before we do it all again. The candy, the rides, the queasiness....
Toots is not sure she can make it that long.
*On a special note I would like to report that I saw a, "gentleman", with a t-shirt that read: "Trust me...I'm a doctor".
Trust ME when I say he was most certainly NOT a doctor.
In a small town, every event is so much more fun with everyone you know !
ReplyDeleteha ha!
ReplyDeletewe'll see who wins out - the hay baler or the llama!
I haven't been to the fair in years. Wonder if I could get hubby to take me this year.
ReplyDeleteAt least he wasn't a congressman.
ReplyDeleteLove these shots -- you did very well, considering the dark skies.
Get an alpaca! And a llama! That's worth one haybaler. :)
Your small town fair looks like a jewel. A llama?
ReplyDeleteWe have a simply divine State Fair in Oregon.. we try to go every year. We used to show our registered Nubian dairy goats at our County Fair and I was the 4-H leader for the kids for years. Love it all. Thanks for sharing yours..
ReplyDelete((hugs)), Teresa :-)
Nothing like fair food. At least once a year.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the county fair. Of course, I'm always a little uneasy about the rides, and Yuck! I hate t-shirts like that!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for our fair this fall. I just go for the funnel cakes! ;)
ReplyDeleteYour post has me looking forward to our own county fair, which begins next week:) Great photos!
ReplyDeleteI don't even trust real doctors...
ReplyDeletetotally excited for the fair. We drove to the state fair in WV last summer. It was a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for our county fair.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you took some night pictures...they are so pretty and make it all seem so magical.
ReplyDeleteCounty fair says small town America I think. Our 3 yo just said the other day "I can't wait for the fair so I can eat pink AND blue cotton candy." I think a llama for a hay baler sounds like a deal. Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get your llama. Your county fair looks like a hoot.
ReplyDeletedon't forget the funnel cakes and corndogs......the staple of state fair food ;-)
ReplyDelete... but does he play one on TV? County fairs: reasons not to dwell in concrete cities.
ReplyDeleteOur county fair starts tomorrow. Super excited!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for our fairs..they are small and silly and SO fun!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun night. Funny whenever i hear anyone proclaiming there trustworthiness i usually run the other way too haha. Love the night lights, you rocked them and captured the mood of the sky nicely.
ReplyDeleteWe love our county fair, the state fair, the Renaissance fair... and well you get the idea. What fun!
ReplyDeleteI took the kids to the Austin fair this spring but they are really looking forward to going to the big state fair in the fall. I am not so sure. Once a year is enough for me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a dream !
ReplyDeletePlease have you all a good Sunday.

Nice photos! A sign that says "Trust me" is like a sign that says "It's not about the money"--doncha think? But I gotta hand it to the guy--that's kind of original . . .
ReplyDeleteNo pig catching????
Looks like a perfect night at the fair! Glad the clouds held up their end of the deal!
ReplyDeletewhat a wounder blog
ReplyDeletelove it
He needs a couple of pitch forks and a wagon for the hay. Lots cheaper than a hay baler. A team of horses or maybe a team of Llamas could pull the hay wagon. You need a Llama.
ReplyDeleteThe Great Darke County Fair in Greenville, Ohio pulls 'em in during August. It is almost a tradition to go to that fair. All the others are losers - even our state fair.
Hi, I'm holly! Small fairs are much easier on the feet but I love the rodeos that larger fairs have! Other than the first 6 years of my life, I've always lived in small towns. Our current residence is known by its big red 1904 barn. The cable man knew just where to come! :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a perfect way to spend the day....I saw an adorable two year old baby boy with a t-shirt that said "Dads, lock up your daughters"....he was the cutest little boy!
ReplyDeleteFarmchick -- Love the t-shirt guy with a sense of humor. A nice family day -- can understand your daughter not wanting to wait another year. -- barbara
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic colour sky you have in your part of the world :)
ReplyDeleteDoctor? this one made me giggle...
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love fairs? What I miss about our East Texas Fair is all the judging of homemade jellies, jams and veggies...this has kinda gone by the wayside and I think this is sad...The fair is now more about the rides and food...
Oh well, glad your family enjoyed this wonderful time spent together...
Hope you get that Llama soon!
Welll...they both spit out hay so thats kind of a toss up there, isnt it?
ReplyDeleteLOL!
I am drawn ti your use of the sky and horizon s in this post. Nice work. Hope the machine does the business and of course.... the Hay Baler !!!
ReplyDeleteI work with Doctors and ..... sometimes I wonder !!!
Oh I love the fair ours will be coming soon. Nice shirt and I am sure he was not. LOL
ReplyDeleteVery nice pictures...
ReplyDeleteGreat blog !
Enjoy your day !

Pierre
